The morphogenetic process of gastrulation requires multiple inputs and intricate
coordination. Genetic analyses demonstrate critical roles of vertebrate and invertebrate
Snail proteins in this process. Together with other regulatory molecules including Wnt and
BMP, the Snail pathways specify cell fate and reorganize cellular machineries to coordinate
morphological changes and cell movements during gastrulation.
